Honoring Texans who served

Texas has more people serving in the military than any other state, and today we also thank the leaders that work in Austin and in D.C. to ensure that our veterans get the respect and care they deserve.

Leaders like Senator Wendy Davis and Leticia Van de Putte have worked for years in the Texas legislature on behalf of our veterans.

As the chair of the Veteran Affairs and Military Installations Committee, Senator Van de Putte passed two bills that expanded tax exemptions for veterans and their families, a measure voters overwhelmingly approved last week. The Senate also passed a bill this last legislative session that boosted funding for the Veterans Assistance Fund, as well as several that helps service members returning back to civilian life find jobs. Those bills were authored by Senator Davis. These important bills increase the support and respect we give to the nearly 1.7 million veterans living in Texas today.

On Veterans Day, we celebrate the Texas heroes that served our country in the military. They put their lives on the line and sacrificed so that our nation remains free. Please take time today to celebrate their service and recognize the men and women who served.

Wishing you and our veterans the very best on this Veterans Day.
