Election returns are trickling in, but there’s one thing we know for sure. Thanks to your support, we just ended the destructive Republican super-majority in the Texas House.
Tonight, we flipped more Texas House seats from Republican to Democratic control than in any other election year in recent memory. And to be clear – You did that. It was your door knocks, phone calls, financial support, and votes that helped protect and reelect every Democratic State Representative and win back 7 seats from the Republicans.
Each of the following representatives-elect just won back a district previously held by a Republican.
Abel Herrero (HD 34)
Oscar Longoria (HD 35)
Terry Canales (HD 40)
Joe Moody (HD 74)
Chris Turner (HD 101)
Phil Cortez (HD 117)
Mary Ann Perez (HD 144)
Many of these soon-to-be lawmakers have exhibited the strength to withstand harsh and relentless Republican attacks, along with the skill to communicate a compelling message to voters of all stripes.
These lawmakers form the foundation upon which we will rebuild our majority in the Texas House over the next few election cycles. But we still have plenty of work to do.
For now, join me in congratulating these new Democratic State Representatives. Thanks to their hard fought victories, tonight we’ve taken the first steps towards a Democratic Texas House.
