We have two candidates for Sherman City Council elections
Daron Holland is running for Sherman City Council Member District 4. This seat is currently held by Charles Brown. Daron Holland was born and raised in Sherman, Texas and owns a business in downtown called Holland Logos. He is currently on the Citizen’s Advisory Board for the Sherman School District, the Main Street Advisory Board and is on the Board of Directors for the Grayson County Substance Abuse Advisory Board. He also served for five years on the Sherman Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
Commie Linson is running for Sherman City Council Member District 2. This seat is currently held by Terrence Steele. Commie Linson has a military background and is retired from Cable One. She is a non-denominational minister and is an active participant with the Sherman Community Players. She has three children and 4 grandchildren.
Common Concerns Jeanne Briggs – Jeremy is on sabbatical for a year, he’s in Atlanta. Meet the first and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at Grandy’s. Everyone is invited.
New Bond proposal in the Nov. 2017 election – 176-million-dollar Bond Election in November to address growth, facility and technology upgrades, renovations and modernizations at Sherman HS
Indivisible – Dan Pucul 60-ish Post Cards for TX Legislative session. Next push is voter registration, need to schedule voter registrar classes
Old Business
Town Hall – successful, 75 people showed up. Everyone behaved themselves. Getting the word out, need press coverage. Lander Bethel – Democratic response and Glenn Johnson acted as Ratcliffe and did a great job
Press coverage missing, need to engage with them, contact Dallas media about non-coverage. Some suggestions:
Have regular press releases on hot topics by Glenn Melancon
Face book updates on key events and topics
Invite media to lunch, develop relationships
Phone Banking – voter id calls for the last month, meet on Monday nights from 6pm to 8pm. Made approx. 2000 calls. These goes directly into Van, state wide and local candidates can use the list limiting their calls to republicans or disconnected numbers.
Festivals – need volunteers
Ron and Jeanne are going to be out of town from Sept 4th to Oct 4th
We need volunteers for the 9th Hispanic and Frontiers day on the 30th Need a point person to organize festivals, get tent and table out there and volunteers.
