Texas Democrats Run for Statewide Judicial Positions

Three Texas Democrats are running for statewide judicial positions, including two for the Supreme Court of Texas and one on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. With the addition of current Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Lawrence “Larry” Meyers, who is now running for the Texas Supreme Court as a Democrat, Democrats are challenging three out of four Supreme Court seats.

“It is time for the Supreme Court of Texas to be led by a chief justice who will be open and impartial and who will listen to both sides of an argument. The Supreme Court of Texas must be absolutely neutral and fair to all: a court that is balanced philosophically, a court that is accessible to all Texans,” said Judge Bill Moody, who serves on the 34th Judicial District Court in El Paso, who is a candidate for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. “I have fought for justice my entire career and I am ready to put my 27 years of experience to work for all Texans.”

“The Supreme Court of Texas is the court of last resort for civil matters in our state and the last place Texans turn to for justice. As a Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, my focus will be to bring balance, perspective and high ethical standard to the court. The people of Texas deserve to have a Justice that rules with fairness and integrity, and that’s what I will do as Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas,” said Thirteenth Court of Appeals Justice Gina Benavidez of McAllen, who is a candidate for Justice on the Supreme Court of Texas.

“Criminal justice is a matter we Texans take seriously. My entire career has been focused on practicing criminal law and there is nothing more rewarding than being able to promote justice for the people of the great state of Texas,” said Attorney John Granberg of El Paso, who is running for Judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 3.
