Cornyn put others in harm’s way

by David Alameel
Cornyn willing to put others in harm’s way, though he avoided serving himself!

An Austin American Statesman story has addressed my observation that John Cornyn continually votes to send others to war, but declined to serve in the military himself. Here’s the broader point I was trying to make.

It’s one thing to say “No” to a war you don’t believe in. It’s entirely different when you send others off to risk their lives, though you chose not to risk your own.  Washington insiders like John Cornyn are willing to send the sons and daughters of working families to war after war, but they and their friends don’t have to fight or serve themselves.

Cornyn enthusiastically voted for and supported the disastrous Iraq mistake, which cost trillions, took four thousand American lives, and wounded tens of thousands more.  Yet he and his friends have paid no political price for assisting in one of the greatest policy disasters in American history.

All of that energy, money, and sacrifice could have been used to rebuild the American economy and make our people prosperous. But it has been wasted.

Then, adding insult to injury, Cornyn failed the vets he sent to the Iraq war by voting against their interests.  Thousands of vets were forced to serve not one, but two or even three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. While our vets put their lives on the line, Cornyn and the Washington establishment prospered and paid no price, then refused to pay for the costs of their own incompetence.

It’s time for a reckoning. It’s time to put America first and clean out Washington.
