Action: Meet You at the County Courthouse, Feb 23

Join in a protest outside Rep John Ratcliffe’s local office at the Grayson County Courthouse in Sherman, Thursday, Feb 23,  2 – 4 pm, in support of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare). Park in the public parking lot northwest of the courthouse, near the corner of W. Houston and N. Crockett. We will march around the courthouse on the sidewalk, yielding to pedestrians and traffic.

While at the courthouse, a small group of concerned citizens will visit US Rep John Ratcliffe’s office to speak with Rep. Ratcliffe’s staff. This is during a week-long recess, when representatives are supposed to visit the people they represent. His office staff says he is unavailable for town hall meetings because he is too busy with Trump’s agenda to see us or to have a town hall. Town hall meetings with our elected officials are an important civic duty for us and a responsibility for our representatives.

NOTE: this action is open to all groups, committees, and concerned citizens. What’s going on in our country today is bigger than one organization or party. We must fight this together.

4 Things Texans Should Know as Congress Takes Aim at Health Care

“What a great time we had last night making signs for our Protest at the Courthouse on this Thursday! We have plenty of signs to share if you couldn’t join us. Wonderful slogans are ready for walking and chants are ready for talking!

You may park in the area of the parking lot at Crockett & Houston by 1:45. Be comfortable and colorful! But most importantly, Be Courteous!
A few reminders, please:
–Be Courteous
–Stay on the sidewalks
Do not block pedestrians…yield to their right
–Obey traffic and pedestrian signals
–If counter demonstrators gather, do not engage — “IF THEY GO LOW, WE GO HIGH”!

Everyone participating in this Event will be required to abide by all applicable laws and lawful orders of authorities. This Event will be nonviolent and will not involve any civil disobedience or other violation of law.” -Jan

Background information from PCCC
Nationwide rallies supporting the ACA in mid-January changed the debate to “repeal and replace” instead of just “repeal.” Hundreds of nationwide events during President’s week will show growing grassroots opposition to efforts by President Trump and Republicans in Congress to take health coverage away from more than 20 million Americans.

Bernie Sanders says, “The American people increasingly understand that throwing 20 million people off health insurance, privatizing Medicare, raising prescription drug costs for seniors and doing away with life-and-death patient protection provisions is not acceptable.”

Now, with a nationwide day of action including rallies in the home states of vulnerable Republicans, we’re pivoting from defense to offense. Not only must the Affordable Care Act be protected — it needs to include a public option.

NOTE: this action is open to all groups, committees, concerned citizens. We must stand together.

The next monthly GCDP meeting is that same evening, Thurs, Feb 23, 5:30 at Grandy’s. Be there for feedback, support, and important updates to current events and actions in Grayson County.
